Malawi High Commission in the United Kingdom (UK) will on Tuesday honour United Kingdom-based netball icons Laureen Ngwira, Joyce Mvula and Mary Waya.

The three will be honoured for their achievements in UK’s Vitality Netball League, according to Malawi High Commissioner to UK Kena Mphonda.

Mvula plays for Manchester Thunder where she has been impressive after joining them in 2016.

Ngwira was last week nominated for Player of the Season award

She first joined the UK club on short loan from Blue Eagles Sisters before moving to Manchester on a permanent deal.

Waya, on the other hand, became the first Malawian to coach in UK after Hertfordshire Mavericks appointed her shooters coach in February this year.

Ngwira has been outstanding for Team Northambria and last week she earned Player of the Season nomination in Vitality Netball League.

The former Tigresses shooter said she was honoured that her achievements had been recognised by the Malawi High Commission in London.

Meanwhile, Malawi national netball team, the Queens coach Griffin Saenda said he was proud that his players were making a name in UK.

“This will motivate more girls to join the sport since they can see that through netball they can become national icons,” he said.

“This is very important as we search for raw talent that will one day take over from these players.”

Malawi’s other netball export Mwawi Kumwenda plies her trade in Australia.

Kumwenda recently clinched a deal with Australia’s Berwick Nissan sponsorship for her impressive performance in Super Netball League.
